The 7-days Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. It approaches Kilimanjaro from the western side, offering beautiful views, diverse landscapes, and a gradual altitude gain that improves acclimatization.

This route is popular for its high summit success rate, lower crowd levels (especially at the beginning), and the chance to experience a wide variety of ecosystems—from lush rainforest to alpine desert and glacier zones.

Your adventure begins with a drive to Lemosho Gate for registration and then to Lemosho trailhead. The hike starts through a lush rainforest rich in wildlife and ends at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. Expect a gentle but steady trek.

The trail ascends steeply out of the forest and into the moorland zone. You’ll cross Shira Ridge and enter the vast Shira Plateau, where you’ll enjoy stunning views before reaching Shira 1 Camp for overnight stay.

Today is a challenging but important acclimatization day. You’ll hike from Shira 1 to Lava Tower at 4,600m, then descend to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy will help your body adjust to the altitude.

A short but steep trek takes you to Barafu Camp, the base camp before your summit attempt. You’ll arrive in time to rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Begin your summit climb around midnight. After 6–8 hours of trekking in the dark, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate briefly, take photos, then begin your descent to Mweka Camp via Barafu. It’s a long, rewarding day.
