The 7 Days Lemosho Route is a shorter version of the popular Lemosho Route on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a perfect balance of scenic beauty, adventure, and a strong chance of reaching the summit.
Starting on the western side of the mountain, this route takes you through remote rainforest, across the spectacular Shira Plateau, and into alpine desert before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Although one day shorter than the 8-day version, it still provides good acclimatization and is ideal for trekkers with limited time but strong determination.
Why Choose the 7 Days Lemosho Route?
This route is perfect for climbers who want a scenic experience with a slightly shorter duration:
- Beautiful and less crowded starting point on the western side
- Great acclimatization profile despite shorter duration
- Diverse landscapes from rainforest to glaciers
- High summit success rate compared to shorter routes
- Ideal for fit beginners and experienced trekkers
Lemosho Route Highlights
The Lemosho Route is known for its unmatched scenery—lush forests, open plateaus, dramatic valleys, and the iconic snow-covered summit of Kilimanjaro.
Day by Day Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Begin your adventure with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to Lemosho Gate for registration. Trek through dense rainforest filled with wildlife such as monkeys and exotic birds.
The trail is gentle and peaceful, leading to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and your first overnight on the mountain.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Continue trekking as the rainforest gradually gives way to moorland terrain. The vegetation becomes smaller, and the landscape opens up.
Arrive at Shira 1 Camp with stunning views of the Shira Plateau and surrounding landscapes. Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Trek across the expansive Shira Plateau, enjoying wide-open views and relatively gentle walking. This day allows for important acclimatization.
Arrive at Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon, relax, and prepare for higher altitudes ahead.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Climb steadily to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy is essential for adjusting to altitude.
Enjoy dramatic scenery and camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall, one of the most iconic features of Kilimanjaro.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Start the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable scramble with breathtaking views. Continue trekking to Karanga Camp briefly before proceeding to Barafu Camp.
Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon, rest, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Begin your summit push around midnight, trekking under the stars toward Stella Point and then onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness a spectacular sunrise over the continent.
After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp for overnight. This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Enjoy the final moments on the mountain and the changing scenery as you reach lower altitudes.
Receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha, marking the end of your 7 Days Lemosho Route adventure.
