6 Days Machame Route – Climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the Famous Whisky Route

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Your journey begins with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate for registration. Start trekking through dense rainforest filled with towering trees, birds, and monkeys.

The trail gradually ascends to Machame Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and your first overnight on the mountain surrounded by nature.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, where the landscape opens into rolling hills and volcanic rock formations.

Climb steadily toward Shira Camp, enjoying panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains. Arrive in the afternoon for rest and acclimatization.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical section with amazing views. Continue trekking through valleys and ridges toward Barafu Camp.

Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon, rest, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Eat early and sleep to regain energy for the challenging climb ahead.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Begin your summit push around midnight, trekking under the stars toward Stella Point and finally to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness a spectacular sunrise from the summit.

After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu Camp briefly and continue down to Mweka Camp for overnight. This is the longest and most demanding day of the trek.

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, enjoying the changing scenery and warmer temperatures.

Receive your summit certificate at the gate before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha, marking the successful completion of your 6 Days Machame Route climb.
